Summer Dance Intensives
 

BRBT/The Dancers Workshop will offer 
TWO one-week INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS 
this summer for intermediate and advanced dancers ages 10 and up.

Session 1: June 25-29
Session 2: July 16-20

All Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at
Dancers’ Workshop located at 10745 Linkwood Ct., Baton Rouge, LA 

Advanced classes will include: Ballet, Pointe, Jazz and Specialty Classes.
Intermediate classes will include: Ballet, Pre-Pointe, Jazz and Modern.

Session 1: John Magnus, Magnus Midwest

John Magnus received his dance training at the University of Cape Town Ballet School. He soon joined the Cape Town City Ballet Company performing a wide range of classical ballet roles. In 1980, Magnus moved to the United States and began working as Ballet Master for Nevada Ballet Theatre. He then moved to New York City and served as ballet Master for the New Jersey Ballet Company and its school. Concurrently, he taught classes for the Metropolitan Opera Ballet. In 1986 he joined the faculty of the Joffrey Ballet School where he has been teaching for the past 20 years. 

As Ballet Master, he has set some of the world’s favorite ballets, including Don Quixote, La Bayadere and Swan Lake. Magnus has been working with students and professional dancers at the Joffrey Ballet School beginning at age 7 to the most seasoned performer. Magnus teaches ballet , pas de deux, and men’s classes and conducts the national auditions for the Joffrey’s New York and Flint, Michigan Summer Programs each year. He is also the artistic director of the highly successful Joffrey Midwest Summer Workshop in Flint, Michigan and in 2005 he was appointed artistic director of the Joffrey Ballet School New York.
In addition to his active teaching schedule in New York City, Mr Magnus regularly conducts master classes throughout the country. He has also served as adjudicator for the International Dance Association in Paris and has been a faculty member for the Regional Dance America/SW Festivals from 1995 - 2006 and on Louisiana Dance Foundation’s Summer Dance Festival faculty from 2001 - 2005.

Session 2: Winthrop Corey, Mobile Ballet

Winthrop Corey is Artistic Director of Mobile Ballet Company and a summer faculty member for Joffrey Ballet School in New York. He also has served as a summer instructor for American Ballet Theatre. Corey holds the distinction of having been a principal dancer with two world-renown companies, Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet and The National Ballet of Canada. He is especially well known for his classical roles in The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Giselle, and Cinderella. He also is noted for dancing opposite Rudolph Nureyev in José Limón’s classic work The Moor’s Pavane.
Most recently he was awarded a Dance Fellowship from the State Council on the Arts for his service to the State of Alabama during his more than twenty years at Mobile Ballet. Corey also has been a five-time coach for the New York International Ballet Competition, coaching dancers from all over the world in The Sleeping Beauty pas de deux and the Black Swan pas de deux.
Corey has been a guest teacher at Brown University, the University of Connecticut, Dance Masters of America, Boston Dance Teachers Club, Professional Dance Teachers Association New York and has taught master classes throughout the United States, Canada, and Portugal. He serves as a coach for international ballet competitions. And, he is a guest choreographer for companies throughout the United States.
