Our season premiere, Lagniappe - Classical Masterpieces & Contemporary Visions, will merge the traditional beginnings of ballet with the modern dance era. A mixed-bill performance, Lagniappe will include both classical and contemporary pieces.

Fresh Choreography Hits Baton Rouge:
Shannon Johnson, guest choreographer, returns to the BRBT stage with her piece for Lagniappe. Johnson describes her piece as one that "traces the quiet chain of cause and effect in daily life. Each action leaves a subtle echo, and we continue to move forward."
Leah Cox, a 2026-2027 professional artist-in-residence, has also choreographed a new piece for Lagniappe, entitled Basileia, which is Ancient Greek for "Queen." "Basileia" is often used in mythological contexts to describe powerful ruling goddesses. Cox says she was inspired by the caryatid statues of Ancient Greece and their representation of strength, perseverance, and femininity.
A Classic Returns with New Faces:
Youth Ballet 2026 dancers will be performing with BRBT Company in a piece selected from Act I of Coppélia. After all of their hard work and training this summer, we are so excited for you to see their accomplishments.
